The Jubilee Choir Singing Brahms's Requiem, Autumn 2017
Oliver Tarney has conducted us since 2012. He was born (1984) and educated in Lancaster, moving on to read music at Manchester university. After completing a Master's Degree in composition, and training as a teacher – spending time as a music teacher and vocal animateur in the north of England – he has been Head of Academic Music at Winchester College in Hampshire, and now works freelance alongside his position as Assistant Director of Music at Tiffin School. He keeps up a busy schedule as an international choral director and composer. Oliver is published by Oxford University Press and has written works for many groups, and now likes to specialise in choral compositions and arrangements.
Tom is a conductor, singer and academic originally from Newcastle upon Tyne. After studying at both Newcastle and Cambridge Universities, he is now a PhD student at the Royal College of Music. He is researching Herbert Howells’s Stabat Mater and, more broadly, the trends of British choral-orchestral works in the post-war period. Alongside this, Tom maintains a busy freelance career across the country. He is currently musical director of the Durham Singers, the Jubilee Choir and artistic director of the vocal consort Vox Populi. He has previously sung with the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge – with whom he has also recorded – and the Gabrieli Consort. Tom is passionate about bringing singing to all, with a strong emphasis on good vocal technique. This is reflected in his diverse portfolio career.
Ian Ledsham MA (Cantab), FRCO, Dip CHM, ARCM
1954 – 2005
Ian Ledsham, the founder of The Jubilee Choir, was tragically killed in a major road accident in September 2005 in Ropley, Hampshire, on his way home from a rehearsal. Ian came to Odiham as Director of Music at All Saints' Church, Odiham and during the time he was with us he set up the Odiham Choral Foundation (now the Odiham Music Foundation) and the Jubilee Choir. The new Goetze and Gwynne organ in All Saints, Odiham is a lasting memorial to a great friend and musician.
